Doug Cinnella (Seton Hall University 1986) and Professional Baseball Instruction join the baseball community in congratulating former SHU Pirate Craig Biggio on his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY.
“Craig Biggio was an impact player at SHU from his 1985 freshman year. His drive was to win and he loved to compete. I consider him one of the most talented players ever to wear the Pirate Blue. I congratulate Craig on his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.”
Craig is in very lofty company as he joins pitchers Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz as members of the 2015 class; he’s also the first former Seton Hall player to be enshrined in Cooperstown.
In his 20 professional seasons, all with the Houston Astros, he batted .281 as a catcher, outfielder and second baseman, and banged out 3,060 career hits which places him 8th in the National League and 20th all-time. He was a five-time Silver Slugger and a four-time Gold Glove recipient.
In addition, Craig was the 2007 winner of the Roberto Clemente Award, which recognizes a player who “best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual’s contribution to his team.”
Biggio was elected to Cooperstown in his third year of eligibility.
